Long Shots

Long Shots Are Vital For Success

More and more players are playing online with “park the bus” as a default setting or even worse, with a 5 back system as well. It’s amazing how many squads I come up against online that use 5 backs and 2 pacey strikers. Why don’t these people go and play another game? It’s always the same game plan. Launch a chipped thru ball to the sweaty striker and hope for the best. How they enjoy playing boggles my mind. I would get bored by half time if that’s how I played. But I’m getting off topic, let me bring it back a bit. Okay, so you got these wack a$$ players you come up against all the time in Ultimate Team matches and you have to figure out what you’re going to do about it.

The Long Shot

Obviously you’re going to play your game and try to break them down. Passing and dribbling, finding seams and holes to penetrate thru. But you have to have the long shot in your back pocket. Teams that park the bus or play 5 backs will give up space around that 35 yard mark which is kind of a sweet spot for long shots. If you have problems scoring long shots, don’t worry. It took me a while to get the hang of the long shot in FIFA 15. It has changed a bit from last year but once you get a feel for them, you’ll realize they’re not that hard and highly effective.

How To Execute The Long Shot

Some people will tell you to use the finesse shot for long shots as they are more effective. I don’t believe that at all. The blast is just as effective. What matters is the player you’re taking the shot with and the angle of the run. If your player is running at an angle that’s right at side netting or just inside it, the blast is more effective in my opinion. If your player is running more laterally facing outside of the goal post then a finesse shot will help curve the ball into the goal.

Power matters of course and I find with a blast you only need about a little more then 2 bars of power where as with a finesse you might need 3 bars depending on distance (I’m talking from about 30 – 36 yards). How fast your player is running when striking the ball also effects the power. As a good rule of thumb when taking a blasted power shot, you should let go of the sprint button or most of your shots will be too strong and over the goal.
