Defending Tutorial
Pay attention because this is important. I can tell you that I average over 10 shots a game, sometimes over 10 shots a half. Some of you are thinking it must be because I’m a great player who has all the time in the world to just sit here in front of my TV and play all day. Well, Yeah! No just kidding. Although I would love to believe that the truth is that most of the people (Strangers) I play against online just don’t know how to defend. I mean tactically defend with every player. Track back with your midfielders and only switch to a CB to defend at the exact right time to. When I play against “pro” players and we’re really focused on winning (usually cause there’s some kind of real money wager on the line or just plain old fashioned demoralizing trash talk) we usually both only get 3 to 5 actual opportunities. Might still get 10 shots for the game but half of them end up being 30+ yard attempts. Why is that? Because we both know how to properly defend.
Ovvy does a good job of covering how to defend in this video.
Side Note: This Video is great but it still doesn’t cover everything I would want to talk about when it comes to defense. I would advise like I mentioned before that you always try to do most of your defending with a midfielder or even track back with a forward as opposed to sprinting at your opponent with a CB. Matter of fact try not to sprint at your opponent with anyone. You can sprint to your opponent to close down space but when you get closer just let go of the sprint button and start to jockey. Use the R2 or RB button to have the computer do some of your defending for you, specially when you’re opponent is in an area that’s not too dangerous and while you do that, take the player you’re controlling and close down passing lanes. Trapping your opponent to either play backwards or make a bad pass. Don’t be in a hurry to get the ball back, wait for your opponent to make a mistake but make sure you only leave him crappy options (like back passes or forcing the ball out wide).
