Defending One on One
How to Defend Dribblers
I tricked you by making you think this is a post about one on one defending. The only advice I have about one on one defending is avoid it as much as possible. Any great FUT player will tell you that when dribbling against one defender, they will be able to get past that defender 75% of the time. I love going one on one against people. If they rush me a simple ball roll will get me past them and if I’ve already got a step on the defender then a body feint or two later I’m probably isolated with the GK in the box trying to figure out how to finish it off. If the defender doesn’t rush me, I’ll dribble into empty space with sprint down for a touch or two which will then activate the speed dribble and then I can change direction much faster than my opponent. Game over.
So How Do We Avoid 1 on 1 Defensive Situations
You do most of your defending with your midfielders. Track back every time. Two quotes directly from the video below sum it up perfectly. Dirty Mike says “If you don’t have to mess with your back line, DON’T!”. This is my mantra. The CPU does a decent job of keeping your CBs in good positions in case you miss the tackle. Of course you can also hold R1 or RB to double team with the CB. The other quote from this video I like is when he’s talking about his opponent “He’s going to have to beat MORE than 1 player”.
During defending counter attacks you will probably have to change into someone in your back line, but don’t just rush your opponent. Run your defender into a space which forces your opponent to turn or run towards a space you know you can get a teammate to defend, hence leading to a double team or at least buy you some time to set your defense back up.
